The 12 ga./.62 rifle has accounted for 2 critters with 2 shots. This bird was taken at 40 yards with 1 1/8 ounces #5 bismuth and about 85 grains of 2fg. Look at that big old thick beard! This guy, nice bird that he is, looked like a jake standing next to the other monster which was a bit too cagey for me...oh well~
I stalked a fine buck for about 20 minutes and took him last season with the .62 barrel. The shot was about 40 yards off hand with the buck angling away. The ball went through the boiler room, as they say, and took him out cleanly without destroying meat. I just didn't have a camera at that time with which to photograph him.

A fine bird on a fine spring day. I actually called in this bird and a much bigger bird, but had to let them walk away because I couldn't get my gun quite up to my shoulder without spooking them. So after waiting for them to clear out, I made a big circle and called them back in about an hour later. The big bird was just out of range, so I figured a bird in the hand was better than two out walking around in the woods laughing at me. I am going after the big bird when I get 2 guns put together which are promised OUT this week! I have been working hard and trying to stay caught up, but the orders are coming in faster than I can build them. I'm running a solid four months behind right now, so fall hunting guns need to be considered now if you want to actually shoot it before you walk into the woods on opening morning of deer season!!!
Yeah, I photoshopped in all that gray in my hair. Bunch of smart---es!!! I will get even though!
