This wasn't the bird I actually went after, but he was the bird that showed up, so the sparks flew!

The business end of our 12 gauge fowler. Bird was taken at 30 yards and went right down.

The gobbler weighed 20 pounds and had a10 inch beard.

Danny and the nice gobbler with King's River in the background. It was a beautiful Saturday morning and great way to start off the weekend. If I can take a break from working on the house next weekend, I'm going to try to go floating and catch some smallmouths! They are some fighting machines!!!

The flintlock went off like lightning and dropped the old bird in his tracks, didn't even flop. Yes, you can see how beat up the fowler is. Typical of a gunsmith to have the worst looking gun in camp, but I spend my time lavishing attention on customer guns, not mine. I've also carried that gun all over creation chasing those stubborn old birds and it has accounted for quite a few nice gobblers through the years. It is only a 6 pound gun, so it is nothing but a pleasure to haul up and down those rocky, steep, rugged old hills. The bird is going to be mounted "flying" and hang in the new "lodge", for all to enjoy for many years to come. There's just something so satisfying about taking a bird with a  flintlock, JUST like they did in the old days.
